Permateek project

As though this is more a GRP project than a carpentry one, as it aims to replace the classic teak deck cover, we set it here for comparison purpose. People, meet Permateek, one of the leading synthetic (PVC) decking out there. “Permateek marine decking and flooring can be fitted to almost any surface including GRP,Continue reading “Permateek project”

Lagoon 450 sail drive repair

This has been an interesting side project, enlightening how the mass-construction boat yard would do their best to reduce their production cost, with no regard for the future maintenance life of the boat. But who are we to judge … On this 450F, the main task was to take down the Yanmar Sail Drive asContinue reading “Lagoon 450 sail drive repair”

Cleat & gelcoat repair

This owner had a mooring accident, and not only did it break his cleat, but it did some significant damage on the deck gelcoat surface. The owner was desperate at the idea that this incident would leave a definitive mark on his deck. Despite what I discovered, this was a fairly straightforward job, and theContinue reading “Cleat & gelcoat repair”

Regata hull preparation

Being less than 70 nautical miles to the Malta archipelago, Licata is a good location to work on boat preparation for the annual Rolex middle sea race. Over the years, we have been selected to conduct rigging preparation (with Andrea, the owner of our partner’s Nautilhouse), or hull preparation. And you can believe that whenContinue reading “Regata hull preparation”

Rudder repair on a Lagoon 450F

We don’t exactly specialize in those, but the fact is we’ve been repairing rudders many times over the last few years. Osmosis starting to show, obvious leak shown when lifting the boat out of the water, or dent which would happen any time the boat would hit something, including fishing line. And with the frontContinue reading “Rudder repair on a Lagoon 450F”

New window seals on a Fountaine-Pajot

A few months after its delivery, the owner of this Fountaine-Pajot Catamaran complained about a water leak. Our investigation concluded that the large window seals of this boat were the cause of it. This is a classic weak spot on these large modern GRP Catamaran, but this one was only a few months after delivery,Continue reading “New window seals on a Fountaine-Pajot”

Crashed bow on a monohull

This is a work in progress page, we’ll try to keep you posted on the final outcome of this project. However, we share with you how we secured the bow with a bespoke fiberglass, covering the crashed area. After cutting clean the damaged area, we built a bespoke mold, adjusted to exactly cover it. ThenContinue reading “Crashed bow on a monohull”

Rudder structural repair

The bottom of this rudder was grounded and required some heavy structural repair. What made the project interesting is that we only had a very limited timeframe to conduct it. So we came up with a solution to reduce the duration of the whole operation, and we could put back the boat in the waterContinue reading “Rudder structural repair”

Carbon outrigger pole repair

The carbon outrigger of this client broke on one end. He could no longer fit his Gennaker sail, and didn’t know if he should change the whole pole (quite an expensive one, as it was full carbon), or try a repair. We convinced him we could work out a solution which would keep the structuralContinue reading “Carbon outrigger pole repair”
